Emergency Surgery
When your pet needs surgery, we are prepared. Whether it is a bleeding tumor, an emergency c-section, or a laceration repair, you can rest assured that our hospital has the capabilities to care for your pet. At Animal Emergency and Critical Care Center of Toledo, Inc., we have excellent monitoring machines, such as our ECG, that measure heart rate, blood pressure, temperature, oxygenation level, and respirations. A technician also monitors your pet throughout surgery and assists the veterinarian. We have a heated surgery table so your pet does not get cold as we do surgery. Through the use of our suction machine, the doctors are able to see clearly without any fluids obscuring the field. Our surgical suite is large and separated from our treatment area to promote sterile conditions. Our doctors scrub in sterilely with full mask and gown.

Critical Care & Monitoring
The Animal Emergency and Critical Care Center of Toledo, Inc. has a doctor and support staff in the hospital at all times while your pet is here. In addition to our staff, we also have special equipment to help monitor your pet. These pieces of equipment include IV pumps that provide a specific rate of fluid to your pet, an ECG machine that allows us to monitor cardiac activity, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation, and a special heating plate that can be used if your animal is having trouble maintaining its body temperature. We also have two oxygen cages in the hospital that your animal can be placed in if they are having problems breathing. In addition, we administer medication, monitor for pain, and generally keep your pet company throughout the night. If your pet requires a special diet due to pre-existing conditions or allergies, please let us know. We do have several special diet foods on hand that are fed to your pet depending on the reason they are here. You are more than welcome to call at any time day or night to check on your pet.

In-house Laboratory
Bloodwork can be very important in diagnosing your pet and our machines allow us to get the reults while you wait. Bloodwork allows us to look for signs of infection and evaluate organ functions. We also have tests for parvo, feline leukemia, feline immunodeficiency virus, and an 8 minute ethylene glycol test.
We are also able to perform fecal exams and a full urinalysis in our hospital. These enable us to look for parasites and evaluate organ functions.

*New* Digital X-ray
In our desire to provide our patients and clients with the highest quality of care, we recently installed our new digital x-ray machine. We can now take and immediately display x-rays for the doctor's approval. The improved quality of images and speed allow our doctor's to make their diagnosis much quicker. Whether looking for a fractured bone or bowel obstruction, our new machine gives us improved results.
ECG
Also known as an electrocardiogram, this machine allows us to monitor your pet's heartbeat. It allows us to spot abnormalities, such as murmurs or arrhythmias, and treat them. This equipment is also used during surgery to allow our technicians to monitor your pet's heart rate, respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation.

Endoscopy
Our endoscope allows us to peek inside your pet without the need to cut into the body wall. This can be used to take biopses and even retrieve small foreign objects that your animal has swallowed. Our staff has training sessions often to remain proficent.

Blood/Plasma Transfusions
If your pet has experienced a large amount of blood loss, we have donor blood and donor animals easily accesible. We type and cross match our donor blood, and your animal's blood in order to reduce the chance of a reaction occurring from the transfusion. In addition to blood transfusions, Animal Emergency and Critical Care Center of Toledo, Inc. has the capability of performing plasma transfusions for your canine companion. We are constantly staying on top of new literature and guidelines on how to best treat animals in need of transfusions.
Isolation
Some diseases, like the canine parvo virus, require that your pet to be separated from our other patients. Infectious animals are kept in our isolation room, which is fully stocked and separate from our main treatment area. Strict procedures are followed so disease is not spread throughout the hospital. These procedures include disinfecting the hospital daily, wearing gloves and smocks when handling animals in isolation, and to dedicate certain team members to isolation in order to minimize the number of staff that come into contact with the animals there. Our isolation ward has the same capabilities in terms of administration of fluids and medications that the main ward has available. Animals are monitored by video so that they're never out of sight.
